SCOPE:

• Reporting to the Project Manager, the Process Engineer will be responsible for coordinating all process related aspects through Engineering Design Specification, Detailed Engineering & Procurement phases for projects.
• Coordinate EPCM efforts with respect to Process requirements related to pipeline and facilities engineering
• Interface with various Engineering personnel to ensure that all aspects are taken into consideration within the design
• Ensure design meets applicable standards
• Participate in development of Pre-commissioning, HAZOP and Commissioning Plans for effective project design and construction
• Ensure safety in design

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Work with respective Engineering personnel in development of process design criteria, process flow diagrams, Process Instrumentation and Control Diagrams, heat and material balances, valve sizing
• Review all process design documentation and calculations
• Recommend design changes or improvements based on knowledge, experience and input from site personnel
• Participate in formal design, model and risk reviews, Haz-Ops & Haz-Ids
• Participate in regular engineering coordination and review meetings
• Participate in development of pre-commissioning plans
• Development of Process Control Philosophy & Narrative
• Development of Relief, Blowdown and Flaring Philosophy
• Development of Isolation Philosophy

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Minimum of 8-10 years experience in process design
• Expertise in process calculations on HYSYS®, FlareNet®
• Completion of Chemical/Process engineering degree and registration with APEGGA and eligibility as a Professional Engineer in Alberta

THE APPLICANT
The selected Candidate should be registered as a Professional Engineer within Alberta or in the process of obtaining registration. Key requirements include a strong knowledge of production equipment design and production operations. The applicant will be familiar with working with contractors, proficient with spreadsheet applications, and have strong communication, organizational and team leadership skills. Preference will be given to those who have an understanding of, and experience with production operations and project management of capital programs.

THE POSITION
The Process Engineer communicates with management, the Plant Engineer and the Plant Foreman on an ongoing basis. The Process Engineer is responsible for providing technical support to management, developing alternative methods of production, and increasing the production efficiency and capacity. The Process Engineer develops new equipment and process changes as well as addressing employee concerns around safety when handling raw materials or finished goods. To contribute to the overall effectiveness of the established quality system the Process Engineer also has the following specific responsibilities:

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

• Demonstrating support for the quality system through leadership by example.
• Monitoring production processes (and improving these) to ensure quality and timeliness of product.
• Authorizes the creation of production tickets and verifies their correctness.
• Recognize and identify workplace hazards that need to be controlled and/or eliminated.
• Ensuring an adequate inventory of spare parts, supplies and raw materials is maintained.
• Authorizing the purchase of raw materials and supplies for production purposes.
• Ensuring accurate and timely shipments of all out going product.
• Take call during off hours.
• Maintaining an organized, safe, clean warehouse.
• Participating in the hiring, training, and supervision of all production personnel.
• Maintaining good communication with all department managers.
• Researching equipment purchasing for process amelioration.
• Working in union with the foreman to organize contract labour (i.e. electrician, plumber, etc.)
• Communicate with customers.
• Act in combination with the lab to identify and describe how to use off spec. batches.
• Develop work instructions for work procedures.

MUST HAVE:

• Candidates will have a B.Sc. with a minimum of two+ years of experience in production operations.
• The selected Candidate must be registered as a Professional Engineer within Alberta.
• Leadership skills with the ability to communicate clearly and work in a team environment.
• Confident communicating to Senior Management.
• Problem solving and decision making skills.

· To carry out screening studies and develop process schematics for the Company
· Conceptual Engineers in support of potential engineering projects.
· To carry out process simulations and optimization studies for selected projects and
prepare Process Flow Schemes with mass balances and equipment sizes.
· To provide detailed Process Engineering input during all design phases, including interpretation of standards.
· To review any process design work carried out by third parties (vendors), and to participate in, and in some instances lead, Hazops, Safety and Facility audits
· To identify potential applications for new technology.
