Our Client is an up and coming Oilsands company with an amazing team lead by a few Directors with excellent reputations and proven success. They are currently advancing toward an IPO and the opportunity for a new hire is endless.
THE POSITION
Reporting to the CEO, The Vice President Engineering & Construction will be responsible for directing, administering and coordinating the activities of our engineering activities in accordance with the policies, goals, and objectives established with senior management. This responsibility includes all engineering and industrial construction activity of the company including regulatory & environment, reservoir engineering and exploitation, drilling, completions, facility engineering, and major project management, which will include estimating, scheduling, SAGD development and administrative functions, as well as full profit and loss responsibility.
Key accountabilities include:
- Directing and supervising through key managers the day-to-day activities with the objective of achieving and executing SAGD and conventional heavy oil and carbonate projects and services consistent with quality and safety objectives of the corporation.
- Providing leadership and management direction to key managers responsible for SAGD, conventional heavy oil and carbonate project management, and other operational activities.
- Maintain close relationship with senior managers of those clients that our client has existing established relationships.
- Assuming a primary role in initiating and maintaining liaison with new and potential subcontractors to facilitate positive relationships and communication.
- Assuming leadership responsibility for developing new SAGD, conventional heavy oil and carbonate business opportunities and energizing managers within the business segment as well as those in corporate and regional offices to identify potential client prospects.
- Maintaining an effective business development program, securing profitable work on a routine basis through the elevation of relationships at the highest corporate levels.
- Planning staff and supervising all SAGD, conventional heavy oil and carbonate construction activities and approving all major proposals while defining responsibilities and functions so that each member of the team understands what is expected of them.
- Taking action to correct unsatisfactory conditions that may arise in any phase of the SAGD, conventional heavy oil and carbonate construction operations and directs whatever actions are necessary to accomplish company objectives.
- Ensuring that effective systems, procedures, operational controls are established and maintained.
- Providing leadership and motivation to all personnel that fosters teamwork and creates a cohesive organization with the common objective of achieving established goals.
THE INDIVIDUAL
Education
- Degree in engineering and a minimum of ten years managerial or supervisory experience in the SAGD, conventional heavy oil and carbonate engineering and construction industry.
Experience
- A proven record of developing and managing SAGD, conventional heavy oil and carbonate engineering and construction opportunities through an established network of relationships in the industrial construction industry (heavy oil, oil sands, power, and petrochemicals).
- Demonstrated ability to manage a sizable SAGD, conventional heavy oil and carbonate projects in the range of $5 million to $500 million. This would include the overall ability to function as General Manager with responsibility for business development, project management, operations and full profit and loss management.
- A strategic thinker with the creativity and skill needed to work effectively with EPC’s competing for company projects.
- Significant experience in providing management direction to major projects through key subordinates. This involves the ability to manage effectively the staffing, costs and technical issues associated with large, lump sum projects as well as a variety of reimbursable forms of contract.
- Mature judgment, and the analytical skills to manage day-to-day operations, including acknowledged experience and awareness to build on the strengths of the organization, its management team and core employees.
- An individual who is self-motivated, possesses the instincts of an entrepreneur, and has the ability to manage effectively including the commitment to deal with critical issues in a timely and effective manner.
- Excellent personal presentation and communication skills associated with providing leadership and in presenting the company’s capabilities to employees, industry groups, the financial community and the communities in which the company conducts its businesses.
- A determination to succeed combined with a strong personal work ethic that sets a positive tone within the organization and embodies leadership by example.
- A team player and motivator who can build a teamwork environment among managers, employees and between all branch offices that is vital to the continued success of the operations of the company.
