Chief Financial Officer (Full Time Contract) 101-204 – Calgary
THE COMPANY
The hiring Company is a junior oil and gas exploration company that was formed to participate in oil and gas exploration, development, and production in Canada. Specifically, the Company intends to generate and develop its own prospects, acquire oil and gas properties and participate with joint ventures and other industry partners in oil and gas exploration and development in the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin.
The Company is about to take a quantum leap forward for a junior and the Successful Candidate can be part of that leap.
THE POSITION
The Chief Financial Officer will be based in Calgary, Alberta and will report directly to the President & Chief Executive Officer (Vancouver). The CFO will be a well-rounded individual who is responsible for all accounting, treasury, finance, information technology and investor relations activities. This role will have one direct report and will be responsible for overseeing all outsourced finance and accounting functions as well as being responsible for maintaining relationships with the Company’s professional advisors, such as banks, legal firms and auditors. This position is for Full Time Contract.
Key accountabilities include:
- Preparation of quarterly financial statements and related public disclosure documents, in concert with the Company’s service providers;
- Preparation of the Audit Committee package and presentation of the quarterly results to the Audit Committee;
- Coordinating and working with the Company’s CEO to prepare news releases and MD&A documents;
- Attending Board of Directors meetings upon invitation as the Company’s finance representative and assisting the CEO with developing financial strategies for the Company;
- Guiding the development of the annual business plan and subsequently preparation of the annual business plan and associated operating and capital budgets, as well as preparing and presenting the quarterly reporting against the Plan;
- Overseeing the monthly accounting routines performed by a third party supplier; investing surplus funds in accordance with the Company’s investment policy;
- Preparing business case models and forecasting scenarios for business planning;
- Maintaining relationships with auditors and overseeing the annual external audit process for the Company;
- Managing the treasury function, including relationships with various banks;
- Maintaining relationships with the Company’s insurance broker, including review, maintenance and renewal of insurance coverage;
- Preparing grant applications and ensuring the required reporting conditions are met for the Alberta Energy Grant and future Federal Grant programs;
- Managing the Company Investor Relations program. This includes organizing public documents consistent with the Company’s disclosure policy and procedures, drafting news releases, responding to shareholder calls and other contacts, preparation of information packages, investor presentations and other public Company information;
- Ensuring compliance with government and reporting regulations, including the Company’s continuous disclosure obligations and CEO/CFO certification requirements;
- Establishing and maintaining financial policies and procedures to ensure proper accounting standards and controls;
- Achieving Company corporate objectives and key performance targets as laid out in the long-range and annual business and strategic plans; and
- Ensuring that the day-to-day business affairs of the Company are appropriately managed.
THE INDIVIDUAL
As a key member of the executive team, this is an exciting and challenging position in a growing organization. It is critical that candidates possess the following education, experience and personality attributes:
- An accounting designation, with a minimum 10 years of increasingly more senior financial experience;
- A broad cross-section of experience that includes understanding financial reporting, internal controls systems, accounting policies and procedures, financial information systems, financing and the development and implementation of accounting system work processes;
- Strong leadership skills;
- A track record of success in dealing with banks and external auditors;
- Public company experience, including a working knowledge of public company reporting and CEO/CFO certification requirements, would be an asset;
- A definite business presence complemented with personal drive, resourcefulness, maturity, integrity and sound business judgment;
- A self-starter with a highly energetic, results oriented work style combined with excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
- Strong presentation skills and experience in Investor Relations;
- An individual prepared to roll up their sleeves and support the team / business; and
- An innovative and decisive professional who possesses a positive, outgoing demeanor and a good sense of humor.
