Job Description: Public relations (PR) can be described as the management of reputation, with the objective of earning understanding and support, as well as influencing opinion and behavior. PR personnel are responsible for communicating key messages to defined target audiences to establish goodwill and understanding between an organization and its public.
This is proactively achieved by generating third party endorsement, often through media relations, including broadcast, print and new media. Therefore the PR associate will work in close liaison with the regional head of PR & Corporate Communications (N.AM., Canada)and will be involved in all aspects of Marketing, CSR, Investor Relations and Public Relations, including: planning; advertising; promotion; public/media relations; sponsorship; and research. The PR Associate will be located in Calgary, The role is often challenging, varied and exciting. The work of a PR associate is usually very varied.
Tasks typically involve:
- liaising and building relationships with a range of stakeholders, eg: , board members, partners, public, staff.
- Developing advertising opportunities, which can involve placing adverts in national, regional and specialist publications, or/and on the broadcast / new media.
- Arranging for the effective distribution of marketing materials.
- Event management, including press conferences, staff and promotional events. – Organizing, sponsoring and attending events and exhibitions.
- Carrying out market research and customer surveys to assess brand positioning and awareness. – Evaluating marketing campaigns; and contributing to long-term marketing / PR plans and strategies. – Managing budgets.
- Supporting the PR manager, and other colleagues.
- Aiding in the overseeing and maintaining of company’s website.
- Aiding in preparation and production of company promotional items and gifts.
- Managing the PR aspect of a possible crisis situation.
Person Profile and Specific Job Skills:
- Able to communicate and motivate via written media.
- Understands the principles of marketing and advertising cost-effectiveness, including market sector targeting, product offer development, etc.
- Appreciates need for consistency within company’s growing brand and marketing mix.
- A confident presenter to a large audience.
- Ambitious and extremely self-motivated with a positive outlook, and a clear focus on high quality and accuracy.
- A natural forward planner who can drive a project from conception to completion.
- A creative and empathic communicator, able to see things from the target audiences’ perspective.
